Forearm-embedded navigation device awarded upon passing The Ancestral Trial
The Locator is a device that embeds itself onto the left inner forearm of a wanderer upon passing The Ancestral Trial in Level 1. It consists of a large screen with multiple functions. The device is seamlessly integrated with the wanderer's arm. It does not appear to be removable and has never been reported to cause discomfort.
Where the device embeds itself on non-humanoid strays is unknown. All confirmed accounts of The Locator come from human wanderers.
The Locator maps areas as the wanderer explores them. It does not function as a real-time GPS or pinpoint locator. It stores and displays the general area of places the wanderer has previously visited. The more a wanderer has explored, the more useful the device becomes.
When the wanderer is within a certain range of a previously mapped point of interest, The Locator can detect and indicate the approximate area. It does not provide exact coordinates.
Confirmed uses include locating round staircases in Level 0 after the wanderer has mapped one previously, and detecting the shelf rune in Level 2 once its approximate area has been recorded.
The Locator cannot be found, purchased, or transferred. It is exclusively awarded by the Dreamplace itself upon passing The Ancestral Trial.
The device appears on the wanderer's left inner forearm when they wake up in Level 2 after passing the trial. No wanderer has reported receiving it through any other means.
The Locator is the primary reason The Bright Star functions effectively in Level 0. Members who have passed The Ancestral Trial carry mapped staircase locations, making them genuinely useful as guides rather than simply experienced wanderers.
Whether additional functions exist beyond those currently documented is unknown.
